On site at our latest architectural project: a captivating first-floor addition. This meticulously crafted extension boasts a spacious master bedroom, complete with a walk-in robe and bathroom, alongside an additional bedroom. The allure of this space is further enhanced by its beautiful high ceilings, adding an element of grandeur to the design. Our commitment to excellence is evident in our efforts to retain the existing details, seamlessly integrating them into the new construction. Robinson's Run is the first BMA project to use rammed earth. We learnt so much about the opportunities and limitations of this sublime material along the way, and want to share some of that knowledge. BMA are thrilled to see our residential project Robinsons Run published in Eco Outdoors Project Papers publication.

The design of this project, on a prominent site in South Coogee, was the result of an intensive collaboration process with our Clients over an 8 week program in a limited design competition format to design an inter-generational home.

After many months of work and negotiations we are now eagerly looking forward to seeing this beautiful house come to life following the recent DA approval from NBC. The design is a sympathetic, yet epic, addition to a modest Bruce Rickard weekender, transforming the original house into a sophisticated and modern family home for our very patient Clients on this amazing waterfront site in Clareville, NSW.

After nearly 6 years our Fishing Point Rd project is finally getting close to completion.......hopefully ready for some relaxing family holidays this Christmas overlooking beautiful Lake Macquarie.

Known as Wedgetail, the outdoor learning site at Pymble Ladies College Vision Valley is a dramatic undercroft concrete roof shelter and teaching space, with compressed views to the landscape and valley beyond, released by the raking chevron (wedged) shaped eave edge. A landscaped roof with camping for students is proposed, the structure anchored into the hill like an ancient rock cave.....more to come soon.

BMA have been working with Pymble Ladies College on a range of projects at their Vision Valley Experiential Learning Campus, including two new outdoor teaching spaces. Outdoor Learning 2, known as Kookaburra (named by one of the students), is nestled below a natural escarpment. The space has been designed with a dramatic steel and timber roof structure, reflecting the feathers of a bird wing. Construction is scheduled to commence this year....

BMA are excited to see one of our commercial projects published in Modus 12. 76 The Borough is a 5 storey Hi-Tech Industrial Building in Marrickville completed in 2022.

BMA are incredibly proud to have been awarded a Commendation in the New Houses category at the recent NSW Chapter Country Division Awards 2024 for Robinsons Run. Thanks to our amazing Clients, Ian and Michelle, Brad and Paul and all at Buildline Constructions for their unwavering dedication and commitment to the project, constructed out of the 2019 bushfires that ravaged the valley, and through a global pandemic, and finally to our phenomenal team at BMA.

The weather was perfect for this months social club activity which took us to Marrickville for a game of barefoot bowls!

BMA have partnered with Pymble Ladies College (PLC) on an epic journey to convert this tired (but sound) residential retreat facility, set in beautiful bushland to the North of Sydney, into the site for their residential experiential learning programme. Accommodation refurbishments (detail photographed), outdoor learning and gathering spaces, camping and activities, teacher accommodation and operational facilities are all being considered, and delivered, as part of a site wide master plan. We are at the start of a really great story about this site, and the school’s interaction with it. Keep an eye out for updates as this project unfolds.

BMA enjoyed a social night of music and life drawing at El Rocco. It was a fantastic night!

The BMA team stepped out of the office to make a racket on the tennis courts! Everyone had a ball showing off their tennis skills!

BMA have been working on the design of a new and exciting project in Tamarama. This house, "Konkurito" which means concrete in Japanese, was originally designed by Gordon and Stone and completed in 2010. It’s a well executed (but austere) off-form concrete home built on a tight, steep site on the hill behind Tamarama Beach. The new owners approached BMA to personalise and make targeted incursions to “complete” the house, delivering a warm, beautiful and efficient family home. Our architectural response focuses on providing a new address, entry and circulation element which clarifies movement through the house, and unlocks new potential in the experience of other spaces within the existing envelope. Recently, Development consent was received from Waverley Council, and the project will now continue Design development and documentation for tender and construction. Construction is likely to commence on site around October 2023.

We had some fun with the re-imagining of this bland, oversized commercial lobby. By Introducing organic curves, natural finishes and considered light/shadow, an engaging and inviting space to meet, greet, chat or wait has emerged.

Happy 12th Birthday to BMA!

A DA has now been lodged for our newest Sydney Commercial/Industrial Project. Three new five storey buildings addressing a podium courtyard will house a broad range of recreational, commercial and industrial uses. Keep following for updates as the approval process continues.

Kudos to our builder who has sent over some great progress photos of this project. The CLT roof has been framed and sheeted, and the box gutters and rainwater heads have also been installed.

BMA got scary on Halloween this year by getting our faces professionally painted in the office! We all had such a blast embodying our inner Vampires, Zombies, Spiders, Monsters and other mythical creatures. Huge thanks to Emily who took the time out of her day to paint out faces.

We are proud to present our feature on the local project's website, focusing on the sensory elevation of our Kangaroo Valley project: Robinson's Run. A special thank you to the team at the local project for giving us the opportunity to showcase our work!

The project has been moving at a slow pace due to COVID-19 and the weather, but it's now at a stage where the house exterior works and interior fit-out are almost complete with finishing touches forthcoming over the next few weeks. The project is unique in that excavation under the house for the basement garage was done only recently whilst works to house was ongoing. Traditionally, excavation works under the house would normally be done first.

Following a positive pre-DA experience, BMA has been working hard to develop this commercial project into contextually responsive and positive addition for the suburb of Marrickville. Detailed liaison with the project consultants has been integral to ensure an advantageous outcome for everyone involved. This project still endeavours to uphold the values of sustainability, high quality and flexible work places. We are hoping to submit the Development Application this month.

Approval for Ashfield Baptist homes DA just before Christmas. BMA are looking forward to the next stage.

We are very excited that our Teracota project in Alexandria was acknowledged at the AIA NSW awards last Friday night with a commendation in the multiple housing category. Great work by all involved, and congratulations to all the winners on the night.

It was great to walk the site at Matraville earlier this week with the BMA team. After designing the subdivision of the 2.5ha site for the developer, We are now engaged on the design and delivery of four commercial/industrial projects for the purchasers of the sites. It’s fascinating work with a combined construction value of around $35M, and the next three are in the pipeline.

BMA took some time out over Easter to celebrate our 10th birthday together at Wolgan Valley. Jacki and I are grateful for the opportunities, proud of the results, and excited about the future. Cheers to a great team working on unique projects with fantastic clients, builders and colleagues.

This project is the refurbishment of a CBD Art Deco warehouse building currently in use as a boarding house. BMA are working in close collaboration with Chada, who bring their extensive experience in hospitality design to the team. Our client’s vision is for a contemporary 4 star hotel celebrating the original building fabric, with 44 rooms, a restaurant and three bars (a basement speak-easy, a street level lobby bar and a roof top venue). The project is currently being assessed by City of Sydney for planning approval
