This project, known around the office as “Mount Coogee”(because the site rises 25m from front to back) is a new four bedroom family home across three levels, wrapped around a courtyard swimming pool and the cliff face landscaping beyond.
Coupled with this steeply sloping site, a drop dead programme of only 18 months from meeting the clients to occupation posed an intriguing design and delivery challenge.
BMA proposed that the design of the building be undertaken with complying development (CDC) approval in mind to streamline the planning approval process and allow sufficient construction time to meet the deadline.
Over the next few months, close collaboration between receptive clients, a proactive builder, the private certifier and ourselves resulted in approval to begin construction.
